A usurped prince prepares to take up the mantle of a deadly assassin and reclaim his kingdom, his people, and his slain gods in this epic fantasy from a USA Today bestselling author.

Cyrus was only twelve years old when his gods were slain, his country invaded, and his parents—the king and queen—beheaded in front of him. Held prisoner in the invader's court for years, Cyrus is suddenly given a chance to escape and claim his revenge when a mysterious group of revolutionaries comes looking for a figurehead. They need a hero to strike fear into the hearts of the imperial and to inspire and unite the people. They need someone to take up the skull mask and swords and to become the legendary "Vagrant"—an unparalleled hero and assassin of otherworldly skill.

But all is not as it seems. Creating the illusion of a hero is the work of many, and Cyrus will soon discover the true price of his vengeance.

If you like David's Shadow dance series, you'll like this too. They have a very similar feel about them.

Another solid story!

Honestly, I think I'm just going to have to actually read this one to decide whether or not I like the story itself. The narrators are just shy of monotone, not to mention the number if mispronounced words throughout the entire book. I'm not even going to bother with the rest of the series as audiobook, the story has potential, I just can't tell if it's actually good because the horridness of the narrators make it so hard to focus on the story.

just rough

This seemed like a good story and something I would enjoy. Within two minutes I was angry that I had wasted a credit. The male narrator sounds like he’s trying to force his voice deeper to sound… more intense? The character voicing is bad. The damage narrator is bland but not as grating as the male. I might read this book on kindle but I couldn’t make it past the second chapter listening. And that was only in an attempt to listen long enough to leave a review.

Narration caused instant buyer’s remorse
