"Go on a date with me or I'll beat up your best friend." A line that shouldn't have worked, but did. When your BFF is in peril, what's a girl to do?

Jason King is used to getting what he wants. And he wants me. No clue why. I'm a geeky introvert. I must have that just-turned-eighteen, new-girl-on-the-block smell.

Jason is popular. Cocky. His dad is richer than God. He has his crew dedicate their summer to tormenting my best friend, Donovan.

Donovan fights back with quick tongue and a sense of humor as dark as his clothes. But he's tasted enough of Jason's knuckle-sandwiches to last a lifetime. Which is where I step in. One date with Jason and the bullying stops. It's a no-brainer.

So I let Jason take me out for ice cream. What's the worst that can happen. Right?

Except Jason's piercing blue eyes send a delicious shiver through me that has nothing to do with my mint chocolate-chip. Donovan is going to hate me for this.

Contains mature themes.

I’ve read coming of age stories before but this one was probably the worst. It was repetitive and predictable. It ended without answers. Disappointed read. The narration was lackluster to say the least.

Awkward story

I like that the setting was like early 2000's (home phone, walkman, Myspace) I liked the character development. To me it did really make sense that Kenzie would confide in Mr.King after he made her so uncomfortable when they met. The Donovan is her best friend and she wouldn't tell him? hell tell 4 would've made more sense haha. the ending seemed like a cliff hanger so much unanswered and poor poor Jason. overall this was ok but I would recommend to a friend 😕

Cute but unfinished

Ugh! This book was so bad that I almost DNF but I kept going to give it a chance.

First, the FMC is supposed to be a freshly 18 yr old virgin yet she talks about the "adults" in her life like a child would, she doesn't drive or work, and she has explicit sexual encounters with more than one partner as her first experience?

If that doesn't stop you from making the same mistake I made; how about a book from 2020 that has a teenager talking about MySpace, her Walkman, and using a "home phone" to talk to her crush? What teenager do you know that has even used any of those?

Multiple character personalities are inconsistent throughout the book. The plot of the book isn't good either. It felt like AI junk.

Wow, that was bad!!

Spoiler: Anybody who hides a pregnancy from the father for any other reason than protecting themselves/child from abuse is an irredeemable piece of garbage. Also, the ending was very rushed and the MFC is an idiot. If I could give this negative stars I would.

Asinine ending

This is an entertaining story of coming of age as a teenager. Kenzi, Donovan, and Jason are unlikely friends that come together and bond in a special relationship. The banter and antics are humorous. The narrators do a great job of bringing the characters to life. I enjoyed this audible book. Highly recommend.

Excellent
