When Sophie, a beautiful 16-year-old girl, is found sequestered in a cage-like room, she can recall only the red flag at the end of her drive and the warnings about a curse. She has known only a desolate and snowy home. Her new relatives, whom she had never met, insist on calling call her Callidora, and she wonders why they insist on calling her by this strange new name.

The mystery is resolved when she finds out why her father had caged her, changed her name, and felt he had to keep her under lock and key. Solving the mystery and facing her challenges means she can free herself from the demons of the past and live a normal life.

I loved this story. There were so many times when I found myself laughing out loud or cursing at certain characters! Brenda is an amazing story teller. Her words paint vivid images in your mind that make you feel like you know the characters. Can’t wait to read another one of Brenda’s books!

I always appreciate twists and turns in stories. This one had some good ones. Brenda Stanley also artfully dealt with sensitive issues - weaving them into her story in a way that added depth without distastefulness. Well done.

I’ve read this book before. Once I found out it was on audible, narrated by the author, I had to have a listen. It was even better than I remembered. Brenda has a way of developing a story so that by the end, you’re completely satisfied. There are no unanswered questions. A story that I could have listened to for all 5 hours. What a great read!! (Or listen!)
