“[Narrators Moira] Quirk's and [Sid] Sagar's voices are well suited to their characters and bring nuanced meaning to the story.”—AudioFile

From Alix E. Harrow, the New York Times bestselling author of Starling House, comes a moving and genre-defying quest about the lady-knight whose legend built a nation, and the cowardly historian sent back through time to make sure she plays her part–even if it breaks his heart.

Sir Una Everlasting was Dominion’s greatest hero: the orphaned girl who became a knight, who died for queen and country. Her legend lives on in songs and stories, in children’s books and recruiting posters—but her life as it truly happened has been forgotten.

Centuries later, Owen Mallory—failed soldier, struggling scholar—falls in love with the tale of Una Everlasting. Her story takes him to war, to the archives—and then into the past itself. Una and Owen are tangled together in time, bound to retell the same story over and over again, no matter what it costs.

But that story always ends the same way. If they want to rewrite Una’s legend—if they want to tell a different story--they’ll have to rewrite history itself.

I loved the characters complexity and the shifting POVs.

Fantastic.

I thought the protagonists — and villains — were well developed, even when the narration was narratively distant from them. I think this author is, in all honesty, the most sophisticated and clever storyteller. This novel defies genres. its structure propels the narrative forward, even in the complexity of its telling, although I will say it could have done with a wee bit of editing. Ultimately, though, I say, brava — and sometime I’ll give it another listen, as it is that rich a tale and I was sad to say goodbye to the two main protagonists.

Ambitious and successful story

Absolutely stunned by how much I loved this! Beautiful prose, a compelling story with just the right kind of foreshadowing, memorable, complicated characters, and full of perfect little details. Also enjoyed the narrators - I actually pulled the trigger and bought this title because I so enjoyed Moira Quirk's work on the Locked Tomb series (if you love those books I genuinely cannot recommend this one enough btw!!!), and the other narrator (who actually does most of the book) was fantastic as well.

Sorry in advance because I'm going to be talking about nothing but this book for days!!!

This is my first Alix Harrow book. Such beautiful prose in this wonderful tale of two lives manipulated over and over again through time, destined to repeat the same life over and over again until it has happened so often it becomes remembered. Once remembered they endeavor to change their fate being manipulated by a horrible power hungry queen. One of my rare 5 star books for this last year. I didn’t want it to end yet I really wanted to know the ending of their fates. Lovely narrator, especially the voice of Una (Moira Quirk). I will definitely listen to it again in the future.

Beautiful tale of fate and self destiny
