It's 1959 in a rural Indiana town, and the local drive-in is hosting their first-ever Dusk Til Dawn Spooktacular!

And they've got a Percepto surprise in store for the audience, complete with vomit bags, nurses on staff, and a hearse parked just beneath the monsters onscreen.

But June has a strange sense about things. Always has. And as the screams spread through the parking lot, reality and theatrics begin to blur for her and her friends. Is it just a gimmick, or is something lurking amongst the moviegoers?

Critic reviews

"Buttery snack bar popcorn, drive-in intermission ads, classic horror cinephilia: clearly I'm the target audience for this book. But I think you'll love it too. The Film You Are About to See is a book with its eyes on the past, but at the same time announces Newlin as a modern horror voice to watch. It's showtime!"—Adam Cesare, Bram-Stoker-Award-winning author of Clown In a Cornfield

"The book you are about to read is a cinephile's spine-tingling fever dream. Haley Newlin pens a love letter to celluloid, capturing the grain and gimmicks of a bygone era where the blood seeps right off the screen and into your book. William Castle would be proud... and you'll be absolutely terrified."—Clay McLeod Chapman, author of Wake Up and Open Your Eyes

"Energetic and full of popcorn and bodies. The Film You Are About to See pays loving tribute to the classic horror of yesteryear with a blood-soaked romp at the drive-in."—Hailey Piper, author of A Light Most Hateful

First of all, I want to commend the author for putting her heart into the book. It’s easy to see her love for old horror movies and stories in this one. Especially Vincent Price which admittedly got redundant.
My main reason for not enjoying this book is that it does too much. Is it a slasher? Monster? Possession? Psychic thriller? Well yes. And… no? I always appreciate effort and I know many will like this one. It just wasn’t for me.

A lot going on.

Love the play on the over the top films playing at the drive-in masking the horror lurking between the cars. Claire's hypnotic narration swirls you in that atmosphere, bringing you back to the 1950's. The Castle gimmicks add to the unsettling questions of what is real, and what is theater. Fun listen!

I loved when my horror is served up with nostalgia!! Haley Newlin’s The Film You Are About to See follows a group of teens heading to the drive-in for a late night double feature picture show, but they certainly encounter more than they bargained for. Something sinister realized this movie scream-a-thon is the perfect hunting ground…
Claire Burgi’s narration really brought this one to life and made you feel like part of the story.
Now excuse me while I go search my tv to see if The Tingler is streaming anywhere!

A nostalgic romp filled with guts and tension

A bunch of friends go to a drive in movie. One by one, other patrons start dropping.

The book had some interesting twists and turns and definitely didn’t go where I expected. The narrator was fantastic!

A fun throwback!
