Brandy and Zane are out of options. With Halloween approaching and no place to call home, they take over the house of Brandy’s agoraphobic client — a woman too fearful to leave and too isolated to resist. It’s only temporary, they tell themselves. Just long enough to save up and start fresh — for themselves and their children.

To pass the time, the woman begins reading them pages from a novel she’s been writing — unsettling, violent, and impossible to forget. Brandy tries not to think too hard about it. But some stories linger longer than expected.

I enjoyed listening to the audiobook. It has a great narrator. I loved the storyline and enjoyed the dark ending. They played with the right one and it costed them dearly.

I read this book back in November 2024. I enjoyed the Kindle version, but I just finished the audio version, which just turned the book up a notch. It has a crazy plot twist, and the events in this story are wild. I highly recommend the audio version because it was all that. And yes, I CANNOT FORGET THE ENDING. I laughed so hard.

What a fun an hilarious performance! Everything about the two of these characters was a total mess. it was like frontal lobes did not get fully developed yet or something. Therefore, they should not be just trying to plan crimes. just stop LOL I loved that there was a story in a story and that one was equally as unhinged, if not more, than the original.

I was thoroughly entertained! I love stories told through characters’ perspectives. Every main character was…a treat. 😆 Narrator’s commentary at the end had me cackling. This would be a great Jordan Peele movie.

Anytime Samyra Alexander and J.R. Mason collaborate on an audiobook, I know it’s going to be good! “Every member in their family is crazy,” one character said about an unhinged clan that was wreaking havoc on the city’s citizens. Yeah, but who was their creator? I love reading about the wacky characters Samyra Alexander comes up with because she's so good at it.

This book was great! If you love thrillers and crime fiction with a dose of humor, anything by this author will hit the spot just right. Oh yeah…and there are several twists at the end, one I didn’t see coming at all. J.R. Mason is such a great thriller narrator. Love her voice, enthusiasm and all the sound effects.
