In this instant New York Times bestseller, Cormoran and Robin find themselves ensnared in another winding, wicked case as they must work to uncover the mysterious identity of an online killer—before it’s too late.

When frantic, disheveled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn’t know quite what to make of the situation. The cocreator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie’s true identity.

Robin decides that the agency can’t help with this—and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.

Robin and her business partner, Cormoran Strike, become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie’s true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches their powers of deduction to the limits – and which threatens them in new and horrifying ways . . .

A gripping, fiendishly clever mystery, The Ink Black Heart is a true tour-de-force.

This is a good storyline and I love the series overall, but I find the online community back and forth part of the conversations distracting and annoying to hear read to you.

Love the series…

I’m about 4 hours in and thinking about returning the audiobook and buying a hard copy. I just can’t follow the texts from the chat rooms, and I feel like they are pretty significant to the plot. If the publisher would provide transcripts of just the chats, then I’d prefer to listen, but I couldn’t find anything like that online.

Probably best to read, not listen

People don't like the chat format in audio. That's too bad. Perhaps it's because I read with text-to-speech on a daily basis, but I found this not only refreshing, but an interesting contrast to the main story. A very long, very drawn out, very tangled story in the best way. Only a successful author could get away with writing a book which could have probably been a third shorter. But all the filler, rather than dragging the story out, really helped flesh out all of the key players, and by the near end of the story, I wasn't quite ready for it to be done. I have enjoyed every one of these novels, and JK/Robert is still going very strong. I always felt an air of mystery with her Harry Potter series, and she has proven she is adept at the genre. I will gladly read whatever comes next, though I suspect the series may be coming to a close after the next book or two. Try to see past the audio tweets. They're really not hard to follow once you take out all the hashtags, @whos etc. Position

See past the tweets and chats and be Thoroughly entertained for a very long time.

I see lots of complaints about the back and forth messaging in the story. I’m not personally having any trouble following it, but I can appreciate it might be difficult for those who rarely log into social media. You kind of just have to settle into the mental picture of the communication threads. That’s what I did. It’s realistic to the brutality of online harassment and a good, realistic modern day story. I’m not finished yet but I will stretch the 32 audio hours out as long as I can. I love these characters and I LOVE the performances of the character voices. Always 5 stars for Cormoran and Robin from me.

Hearty

I love the Cormoran Strike series of books and on tv. I listened to the audio version of the book. It was a bit strange hearing Tweets and chat room conversations with all the @whoever @another.person @someone.else being said in its entirety but I suppose there wasn't a better way to do it.

Another great Cormoran Strike novel!
