I believe I've found a new series to read. Writer Matt Brolly has created an intriguing character in DS Liam Kilshaw. This first book The Lines, brought up a lot of conflicting emotions as well as the love/hate (fear) of the ocean. The relationships are honestly portrayed and the various emotions are realistically captured. Brolly's character, Liam Kilshaw, is portrayed as dedicated law enforcement officer without ignoring the human side of the job making him a true hero in The Lines. I recommend the audible book performed by Samuel Roukin to get a real feel for the characters and location. It is excellent. -Mr.Bill

I would probably give this a 4.5. I like Matt Brolly's series with Louise Blackwell better, but this was still good and I will definitely listen to the next book in this series. I didn't fancy the narrator so much in the audio book. He was good, but he didn't have much inflection or charisma. I don't feel that the main character in this book has quite as much depth as some other protagonists, but at least he seems to be morally and ethically above board, which are refreshingly admirable qualities.
