They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. He was living alone, a quiet life on a shady street in Brazil; a simple life in a modest home, certainly not one of luxury. Certainly no evidence of the fortune they thought he had stolen. He was much thinner and his face had been altered. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. But Danilo had a past with many chapters.

Four years earlier he had been Patrick Lanigan, a young partner in a prominent Biloxi law firm. He had a pretty wife, a new daughter, and a bright future. Then one cold winter night Patrick was trapped in a burning car and died a horrible death. When he was buried his casket held nothing more than his ashes. From a short distance away, Patrick watched his own burial. Then he fled. Six weeks later, a fortune was stolen from his ex-law firm's offshore account. And Patrick fled some more. But they found him.

A well crafted JG story as usual. I like the wit weaved throughout the tale. Lanigan outsmarting his partners was great story; the way he beat Trudy and made the law officers look like overpriced rookies make for good listening.
The way his enviable love of the Brazilian girl fizzled in his face is quite poignant; Language was outsmarted in a twist in the tale kind of story. You're drawn to his smart brain, only to see him outwitted by the woman he loved and trusted with his own life.
The reader did some good stuff delineating each character with deft modulation.

Great work from John Grisham as usual.

One of Grisham best. From Start to Finish the Trista and turns kept me enthralled. Th narrator was also excellent 10/10

One of my favorites, to date. Enjoyed every single character in this story, good guys and bad guys alike. The plot was outstanding. Frank Muller’s narration is nothing short of perfect. I saw where the ending was going and no, no, no. It cannot be. But then again, it was not entirely a surprise either.

Didn’t want it to end!

As usual John Grisham delivers hours of enjoyment. I really liked the way he allows the detail of the story to be rolled out slowly. I was able to see in my mind the various places and happenings in my mind as I listened and I adored the accents used by the narrator. Loved it.

Loved the story but the ending broke my heart. I wish it hadn’t been that way but it reflected the reality of life and I can respect that.
