For a devoted wife and mother, a restful getaway descends into an inescapable nightmare in a novel of dark psychological suspense by the author of The Body Next Door.

Harlow has almost everything she ever wanted: a passionate marriage, an adorable stepson, and a fresh start at her husband Gregor’s boyhood home on the water. If only she could get pregnant, her happiness would be complete.

But soon after they arrive on the misty, tree-cloaked island, Gregor starts to change—and Harlow is shaken by his odd connection to their neighbor Kirsten, a luminous tradwife influencer.

Then, deep in a wooded ravine, Harlow finds evidence of an unspeakable murder—or thinks she does. Desperate to know what’s real and what’s only in her mind, she tracks down rumors of missing girls and bloody rituals, and begins to suspect that her marriage, too, hides a menace she never saw coming.

Each day the feeling grows: the safest thing she can do is run. But from what, Harlow can’t even begin to imagine.

This book is an easy read. It really keeps you wanting to know how they will escape. I listened to this book in one day.

So scary to know this is an accurate story for many.

I don't want to give away spoilers but from my perspective the book read almost like two entirely different genres. By the end it had transitioned into something like a sci-fi and the very ending has me completely confused. I'm not sure if I missed a crucial detail or what but I really don't understand the ending at all.

Strong Beginning but Otherwise Bizarre

I thought this book was awesome until the end ruined the whole book for me. There’s a million other ways the author could have went and it seems she chose the less favorable one.

It had me up until that ending😒

This was a decent read. Not my favorite psychological thriller, but it definitely had some really interesting elements that pulled me in.
The occult aspect, the trad wife dynamic, and all the lies and hidden secrets woven into this isolated island setting in the Pacific Northwest made for a really intriguing atmosphere. There was something unsettling about the way everything tied into the moon and the deeper mystery behind what was really going on.
That said, I just wanted more from it. The story had a lot of potential, but it never fully delivered in the way I was hoping. The ending especially wasn’t my favorite. It felt a little disconnected, almost like it shifted into something else entirely and left things too open without enough payoff.
Overall, it was still a pretty solid read with a unique vibe. Just not one that completely stuck the landing for me.

I am so confused lol the story was so very solid. I loved it. But the ending. It was like you’re running full throttle off a cliff lol I hated the ending.

Very unique
