Jimmy McGuire, a washed-up comic, is found dead on the streets of Inverness, his body garroted.

Back in the 1990s, McGuire had been half of a promising double act until his partner, Jack Dingwall, was convicted of rape. Soon, a second corpse is found in an abandoned industrial site on the edge of the Moray Firth. The body has been there for some days and has also been garroted. I liked the story itself but tbh, too much boring conversation to tell us who these characters are rather than showing by actions, letting us glean by what happens. The main characters -esp lead guy, are all a bit over predictable based on so many prior books of this nature- the incessant droning conversations (particularly in the previous of the series) about whethet something is ‘by the book’ or not is beyond eye wateringly tiring. But the story is pretty good and it’s entertaining. I like the characters, just not loving them.
