Instant New York Times Bestseller! Featuring duet narration from Meg Sylvan and Troy Duran

From the bestselling author of the Kingdom of Lies series comes a slow-burn romantasy set in a Roman-inspired world ruled by merciless vampires. Filled with breathtaking combat, vengeful gods, and magical creatures, We Who Will Die is the epic first installment in an enthralling new series perfect for fans of Carissa Broadbent, Jasmine Mas, and Rebecca Yarros.

Life in the perilous Thorn district is a constant battle for Arvelle and her younger brothers. And the vampire standing on her doorstep is about to turn their world upside down.

Faced with an unthinkable choice, Arvelle makes a magically binding vow to do the impossible: kill the emperor, an ancient vampire created by the god Umbros. But first, she must enter the Sundering—an arena where only the fastest, strongest, and deadliest survive long enough to be selected for the emperor’s elite guard.

She quickly draws the ire of the Primus, the powerful figure charged with protecting the emperor. But the vampire under the armor is the last person Arvelle expects to encounter in the emperor’s court.

With her brothers’ lives in the balance, Arvelle has no choice but to ally with the man who once shattered her heart… and with the emperor’s sadistic son, Rorrik—two vampires whose motives are impossible to pin down. Rorrik holds the key to understanding the powers Arvelle is developing—abilities that would put a price on her head if discovered by the emperor.

To survive the arena and complete her mission, Arvelle must get to the bottom of a conspiracy that will change everything she thought she knew about herself—and the two vampires who are deeply entwined with her destiny…

It was really good all in all a solid 4.8 ⭐️’s. Enjoyed the Roman atmosphere, mixed with the paranormal. Can’t wait to see what happens in book 2.

Sad to finish this book and absolutely can’t wait for the next one! Story line was great. Narrators were fantastic. Nice pace throughout the book and kept me fully invested in what was to come next throughout the entire book. I’d give it more than a 5 star rating if I could.

Captivating story with interesting characters

Sooo good. The plot won out on this. This was definitely a mix of hunger games meets gladiator with a twist of crave. Like crave (one of my favorite series) you can tell there’s something brewing with the “bad brother.” Can’t wait for book 2!!!!

Amazing- hunger games meets gladiator meets crave

This book pulls you right into the world. Unlike most fantasy you’re not sitting there for the first 100 pages confused. The world is violent and has multiple magic systems that are somewhat what you might be used to be also something new. Spicy 🌶️ 🌶️ (the spice wasn’t spicing but I think that was actually the point, 🤔). Lots of evolution through out to keep you engaged.
The reasons it’s not a five start to me are:
1. the writing is a bit choppy at times. I had to pause and listen multiple times to understand that they moved location or days because there was no pause of transitional writing.
2. The female narrator is not my personal favorite. She’s great, but when there are more interesting scenes her voice changes fill over dramatic which throws me off a bit. I’m sure others would disagree but for me it takes away from the book experience.
3. The world is written, but I can’t imagine it. Where are we what does it look and feel like. I have a stick drawing. What is the magic system? What are the different magic? How knows … I just understand that gold is the most powerful, but also vampires are the most powerful, but also first borns? Is there a sliding scale? 🤷‍♀️

Very excited for the next book and possible SPOILER* I hope she ends up with the brother. I have a feeling he sacrificed a LOT for everyone else and not didn’t take what he wanted because they might have gotten hurt and love for family.

4.5 book!!! 😍
