Working for You! - MPP David Smith in Ontario's Provincial Parliament on April 2, 2026

This episode provides a glimpse into the workings of Ontario’s Provincial Parliament by bringing you the recorded proceedings of MPP Smith speaking on behalf of Scarborough Centre – indeed, all Ontarians!

Working for You takes listeners to Thursday April 2, 2026, and first highlights seniors and long-term care, something that affects every community, and closes with how the government of Premier Doug Ford is keeping hyrdo costs down, protecting affordability, and putting money back in people’s pocket – something we can all relate to.

First, a Members’ Statement about the hard-working dedicated professionals in long-term care in Scarborough Centre:

MPP David Smith rose in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to share the experiences of those working in our community’s long-term care facilities, including directors, PSWs and nurses – all of whom, under Ontario’s leadership of Premier Doug Ford, are doing a great job taking care of our seniors.

In the second part of this episode, MPP Smith responds during Question Period, and delivers a message to all Ontarians:

Our approach is simple – don’t make life more expensive. We are focused on keeping costs down and putting money back in people’s pocket. The previous Liberal government drove up hydro bills with bad contracts. We are doing the opposite – We are protecting affordability.

    ...........................................

Black history in Canada began with Mathieu da Costa, a multilingual interpreter of African descent who worked with Samuel de Champlain and Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Monts, in Acadia, whose job it was to assist French explorers.

Early, large-scale settlements occurred later with Black Loyalists (1780s) and Underground Railroad refugees (1800s). Following the American Revolutionary War, over 3,000 Black Loyalists seeking freedom and land settled in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Many formerly enslaved people escaped to Canada for freedom after the War of 1812, forming communities in Ontario and the Maritimes.
