  • Cade Horton officially DONE for the season, Javier Assad steps up + Cubs offense breaks out
    Apr 8 2026

The Cubs picked up a big 9-2 win over the Rays, but it came with some tough news on the pitching front. Cade Horton is set to undergo elbow surgery, a significant setback that could impact the Cubs’ long-term plans on the mound.

In the meantime, Javier Assad stepped up in a big way, delivering a strong performance and helping stabilize the rotation when the team needed it most. His outing set the tone early and gave the Cubs a chance to take control of the game.

Offensively, this was one of the Cubs’ most complete performances of the season. The bats came alive with timely hitting, power from Pete Crow-Armstrong and Moises Ballesteros, and consistent pressure throughout the lineup, turning the game into a statement win against a solid Rays team.

In this episode, Cody, Matt and Dan break down Horton’s injury and what it means moving forward, highlight Assad’s standout performance, and dive into the Cubs’ offensive explosion that led to the 9-2 victory.
