Trent infatti è famoso – e famigerato – per i suoi scherzi, anche di pessimo gusto, e Hamish ne sa qualcosa, dato che, tempo prima, era stato chiamato proprio ad Arrat House per indagare su un delitto, scoprendo poi che la "vittima" era il maggiordomo di Trent coperto di sangue finto. Stavolta, però, la vittima c'è ed è proprio l'incorreggibile burlone Arthur Trent.

Agatha Raisins letzter Fall hat Spuren hinterlassen: Dank einer arglistigen Friseurin sind ihr die Haare ausgefallen, und zwar büschelweise. Ausgeschlossen, dass James Lacey sie so sehen darf! Also flüchtet Agatha in das Küstenstädtchen Wyckhadden, wo sie bleiben will, bis ihre Haarpracht wiederhergestellt ist. Um das Ganze zu beschleunigen, kauft sie bei der örtlichen Kräuterhexe eine Haartinktur. Und tatsächlich: Kaum wendet Agatha das Mittel an, sprießen ihre Haare wie von Zauberhand.
