The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes was a radio show which aired in the USA from 1939-1950, most famously starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. Episodes from 1939 through 1943 were written or adapted by Edith Meiser from the books of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. From 1943 onward, most shows were written or adapted by the team of Dennis Green and Anthony Boucher or Green and Leslie Charteris, who replaced Meiser who left the show over her disagreements with a sponsor over the amount of violence in the program.

Sherlock Holmes is one of the most talented investigators in the world, and has solved case after case with his intelligence and intuition. When he is sent a mysterious coded message from a spy working for his enemy Professor Moriarty, Sherlock takes it upon himself to crack the code and begin investigating a crime that has yet to happen against a man named John Douglas.

In this adventure we are at last introduced to Sherlock Holmes’ brother, Mycroft, the only relative of whom Watson’s friend has ever openly spoken during their long assocation. Inspector Lestrade asks for Holmes's help after Charles McCarthy is murdered, and his son, James, is implicated. McCarthy, and another local landowner, John Turner, are both Australian expatriates, and Lestrade was originally engaged by Turner's daughter, Alice, who believes James is innocent. Holmes interviews James, and then inspects the scene of the murder, deducing a third man was present. Realising Holmes has solved the case, Turner confesses to the crime, revealing that McCarthy was blackmailing him due to Turner's criminal past.

"The Man with the Twisted Lip", one of the 56 short Sherlock Holmes stories written by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is the sixth of the 12 stories in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The story was first published in the Strand Magazine in December 1891. Doyle ranked "The Man with the Twisted Lip" 16th in a list of his 19 favorite Sherlock Holmes stories.

In The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes Dr Watson records eleven stories revealing the astonishing abilities of the famous consulting detective similar only in exhibiting those unusual and outre features so dear to Holmes, his chronicler and their myriad readers. Watson includes the earliest case of the champion of the law and what tragically seems to be his last.

The deadly hand of Professor Moriarty once more reaches out to commit a vile and ingenious crime, but a mole in Moriarty's criminal organization alerts Sherlock Holmes of the evil deed by means of a cipher. When Holmes and Watson arrive at a Sussex manor house they appear to be too late. The discovery of a body suggests that Moriarty's henchmen have been at work. But there is much more to this tale of murder than meets the eye.

Sherlock Holmes's brother, Mycroft, appears in this classic mystery, "The Greek Interpreter", to lead Holmes and Watson to a hideous murder and the betrayal of a foreign heiress. The story is read by a true master, Edward Hardwicke, a talented actor who plays Sherlock Holmes's associate, Dr. Watson, as seen on the popular PBS series Mystery!
