Since first published in 1923, The Prophet written by Kahlil Gibran has never been out of print. This classic has been translated in to more than 50 languages, and is constantly on international best seller lists. The book is made up of 26 prose poems, delivered as sermons by a wise man called Almustafa. He is about to set sail for his homeland after 12 years in exile on a fictional island when the people of the island ask him to share his wisdom on the big questions of life, such as love, family, work and death.

The Prophet is Kahlil Gibran's most famous work. He focuses on human relationships, as well as many other topics, including love, friendship, passion, work, good and evil, and time in a beautiful, simple, lyrical style.

Al Mustafa is a young prophet preparing to depart from the city of Orphalese after a lengthy stay. The citizens beseech him to stay to no avail. Then they ask him to share his wisdom once more. He assents and speaks to them of love, marriage, children, work, joy, sorrow, freedom, teaching, friendship, beauty, and much more, promising to return one day.

An early-20th-century Lebanese-American writer, Khalil Gibran instilled his poetry and art with his experiences in both the East and West.
