The Demon

I went a little insane getting used to my newly forged path as a demon. My consolation was having a taste of life once a year on Halloween to again be torn back to the fiery home I now had. The only way I could stay amongst the living was to get the soul of a full-blooded witch, and after years of searching I’d finally found one.

The devil had jokes, but I’d have the last laugh this year.

The cat ears perched atop my head felt ridiculous, and the whiskers I’d drawn seemed less fun now as I stood beside this handsome stranger. I had planned to spend Halloween with my boyfriend, but here I was getting ready to have drinks with someone I just met.

He keeps looking at me like he wants to eat me, and I’m worried that I might let him.

*This is a short and twisted novella that takes place on Halloween. The nature of this tale is more erotic horror than dark romance as our MMC does not have the best intentions. Please be advised.

This audiobook delightfully surprised me. There were horror elements and erotica throughout, but it was somehow also romantic. The growling by Will Rose is *chef’s kiss*.

The audio performance was good. The narrators did a very good job making the story come to life and keep it interesting. The story itself was missing something more in terms of the plot for me personally.

I love an unhinged dark romance and this story was definitely that.

Ava Monroe, narrating the female voices, absolutely nailed this audiobook. Great emotion, intensity, and embodied the characters very well. Her performance was sexy and well-suited for spicy dark romance.

Will Rose's performance, voicing the male characters, was not my favorite. His tone felt at odds with the story in the early chapters, which was challenging for me as a listener trying to pick up the vibe of the book. In later chapters, and especially the epilogue, he fit his voice to the story much better.

The mention of Taylor Swift was cringe IMO, but otherwise I loved the story. The male narrator was FANTASTIC. Absolutely looooved him. The story was great for a spicy, dark Halloween novella.
