From author Jescie Hall, comes this powerful and emotional contemporary romance featuring a young girl being torn from her perfect, calculated little world, reluctantly falling for her new ex-convict roommate, Hawke, unearthing the truth behind his hidden past.
Nicole never imagined anyone other than her seemingly perfect boyfriend, Patrick, could grab her attention. That is, until ex-convict Cameron Hawke unexpectedly becomes their roommate, turning her entire, calculated little world upside down.
The tension in the house is thick as Hawke's lifestyle clashes abruptly with hers. Nicole's curiosities get the best of her as she attempts to learn the secrets behind Hawke's mysterious past.
Temptations become overwhelming as lines get crossed, feelings get blurry and the truth to a horrific past is unearthed, changing the lives of the three of them forever.

Also Jescie Hall is an incredible writer. I’ve almost finished all of her books and every story is just so powerful, well written, and captures the realistic emotions of her characters.
This was my first time reading, (or shall I say hearing), Hawke. I accidentally read kid before Hawke, which I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that order, because having met Johanna first, I couldn’t believe how different they are! I also really couldn’t help disliking Cole. She was so naive and judgement when she first met Hawke. None the less I enjoyed her character development and the story as a whole is really great. Plus Hawke! Drools!
These two books are now on my ten of best books I’ve ever read. Which incredible because contemporary romance really isn’t usually on my top books list, and I read a like, a lot, a lot.
I CANNOT wait for Kid to come out on audiobook! Especially if Joe is narrating.
Joe Arden is such a great narrator!

Patrick gave me the creeper vibes from the beginning. He had everything, yet yearned for so much more. He semi seemed to come off as a bleeding heart for a quick moment, but I was super suspicious of motives.
Hawke quickly became my favorite. He was so real & genuine. You never had to guess where you stood with him. His honesty and genuine nature made it hard to dislike him or to resist him. He’s suffered a lot at the hands of others, and he’s due some happiness.
Nicole, bless her heart, she was blissfully ignorant & duped. But when tensions began to get high within the house, she slowly started to open her eyes to see the truth.
Cheating trope is often hard to get on board with, but sometimes it can be written so perfectly well that you find yourself rooting for the “other” guy. This was me very early on. I still struggled with the actual act of cheating, but as I kept going it just seemed kinda like a non-issue.
I don’t want to divulge too much more and spoil this read, but I became so emotionally invested, I was almost sad for it to end. This was my first read by Jescie Hall, and I definitely will have some backlist reading to do!
Audiobook Review:
Avery Caris & Joe Arden both delivered a great performance in their duet narration & made me fall in love with everything Hawke & Cole.
Oh my word! What have I been missing!?
