Yasmin Angoe
From the author of Not What She Seems, Yasmin Angoe’s thriller explores revenge, morality, corruption, and wealth as a woman sets out to uncover the truth behind her friend’s disappearance and expose the powerful family behind it.
Isla Thorne had a rough start in life. Orphaned young, she spent her formative years in a group home where she met her best friend, Eden Galloway. At sixteen, they decide to run away to LA…but Eden never makes it.
It’s been ten years since Eden vanished. And Isla’s determined to find her.
She begins at the last place Eden visited: the Corrigan mansion in Virginia. Eden claimed to have unfinished business there. Posing as an aspiring journalist, Isla insinuates herself into the wealthy family’s home and begins searching for the truth.
The more she digs, the more Isla discovers Eden isn’t who she thought she was. Was she even a victim, or did Eden plan this all along? Desperate for answers and to keep her identity hidden, Isla finds an ally in one of the Corrigan sons. But as she wades deeper into this power-hungry family’s secrets and lies, she finds herself in the crosshairs of a bloodline that’s more lethal than loyal.

Fantastic story that kept me on the edge of my seat

What really stood out was how the tension quietly built as the story unfolded. When all the pieces finally came together, it was one of those moments where everything clicks at once and genuinely makes you pause. The payoff was smart, satisfying, and well executed without being overly complicated.
This was a strong read overall, and I’ll definitely be picking up more books by this author. If you enjoy thrillers with great pacing, solid structure, and an ending that comes together seamlessly, this one is worth the read.
Four Walls, One Gripping Truth

The novel follows Isla Thorn, a young woman shaped by a deeply troubled past, who returns to Virginia searching for answers about her closest friend—more like a sister—Eden Galloway, who vanished the night they planned to run away together. Posing as an aspiring journalist, Isla embeds herself in the world of the powerful and politically connected Corrigan family, convinced they are tied to Eden’s disappearance. As she digs deeper, Isla is forced to confront an unsettling possibility: the person she trusted most may not have been entirely honest.
One of the strongest elements of the book is its tension and emotional undercurrent. The dynamic between Isla and Detective Bowen—who shares a long, complicated history with her—adds depth, grounding the story with a sense of loyalty and quiet resilience. I also appreciated how the novel explores ambition, power, and generational wealth, particularly through Victor Corrigan’s storyline, which at times felt both aspirational and thought-provoking.
That said, there were moments where the pacing of the story felt interrupted by repeated references to physical descriptions, particularly around race and skin tone. While some of these details added meaningful context—especially when tied to themes of identity, inequality, and lived experience—others felt less essential to the immediate scene and occasionally pulled me out of the narrative flow. This is, of course, a matter of personal reading preference, but it stood out to me throughout the book.
Overall, I found this to be a compelling and emotional read, with a strong mystery at its core and a satisfying blend of suspense and heartfelt connection. I’m always a fan of stories where love and healing emerge from grief and uncertainty, and this one delivered on that front.
