His name has not always been Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy in his centuries-long existence as a vampire, but it is now. Enduring a stay in the country with fellow vampires the Bingleys, he scents a woman who drives him mad with longing.

Elizabeth Bennet, his sirensong.

He cannot stop himself from tasting her, fitting his sharp fangs to her neck and drinking her honeyed, intoxicating blood.

But he is a noble sort, and he does not wish to destroy her with his attentions. He walks a tightrope between his maddened desire for her and his attempts to keep himself in check.

She is so young and fresh, her whole life ahead of her. It would be wrong to pull her down into the dark with him. He must resist.

Dear listener, I wanted to write about a vampire Mr. Darcy who was more like Lestat, but Mr. Darcy is very definitely Louis, maybe even just Edward. He has so many scruples! This version is steamy, so be aware. Angsty, too, of course. I promise, though, everything works out in the end.

I first got the audiobook that is narrated by the author because I prefer audiobooks. So, I listened to the audiobook several weeks ago and have been working on how best to rate it when the book became available via KU and decided to read it too. I give the author huge credit for doing the narration and thank her for not using computer generated options. I love it when the narration draws the listener in with their vocal talents to envelop us into the story and characters. I hope that the author continues to work on the art of narration if she continues with narration of her other stories.

For the story, we have a very old "Mr Darcy" and his vampire friends, the "Bingley" family, as they enter the assembly in Meryton. Darcy is drawn to Elizabeth as his siren. Bingley and his sisters are not truly siblings, but they had the same creator, so be prepared to understand they don't act as siblings. This is a book for a mature audience. Darcy is very addicted to Elizabeth but struggles with how to keep her safe not only from him but others too.

Overall, it's a good story, but it's not my favorite vampire P&P version. Had I not read the other and loved that one so much I would have rated this a little higher. So, you may absolutely love this one and please enjoy reading it. I have now listened to it and then read it. Will I read it again? Probably when I'm in a mood to read all of these vampire variations at the same time. Each one is unique and worth the fun change of pace.
