One misstep is all it takes to forever change the lives of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.

During the ball at Netherfield Park, Elizabeth, and Mr. Darcy are irretrievably compromised and forced to marry. Angered beyond reason, Mr. Darcy prepares the vilest marriage settlement known to man, forcing Mr. Bennet to accept his terms or suffer the consequences of ruined reputations and unwed daughters. The repercussions that follow show a determined young lady with keen intelligence and a prideful man who realizes that the consequences of their compromise are the best things that have ever happened in his life.

I highly enjoyed this book. It was a delight to listen to. I had read the book before. So many smiles on my face and laughing out loud due to puns and wit. Great read. Great Jaff.

Great book.

You will start out not liking this Darcy, he has a lot to learn, and a lot to be forgiven for. I’ve read one or two others where he was a stubborn, blind, fool, but in those Lizzie already loved him and jealousy tore them apart.

In this one, it only takes a quick glimpse of a red coat disappearing through the trees at just the wrong time to send him into a tailspin.

It takes a bit to get him back on track, but the story is worth listening to and the narrator does a great job.

Oh Darcy!! You idiot!

The premise of this Pride and Prejudice variation is really fun. It does stretch Jane's Darcy characterization pretty far, but it's worth it in service to the plot, and to see Darcy's evolution.

My problem with this audiobook is the narrator. I'm not sure why she uses such a strange almost American Atlantic accent over the British. (But maybe there's a dialect in the UK I don't know about? Even if so, the voicing is not done well.) At times she actually uses kind of a creepy vampiric voice in the strangest places in the dialogue, where that kind of cryptic mysteriousness is totally at odds with the content.

So even though I did actually cringe during some of the voice characterization, I stuck with the book because the plot is fun and the writing is quite good.

Really fun premise.

I like the change of characters personalities. It was refreshing and enjoyable. Highly recommend for P&P fans!

This book is one of my favorite of Sue Barr’s novels. I have read it several times and listened to it twice. The first time I listened to it I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. Everyone, to some extent, makes up voices for the characters in a book while reading. Ms Thomas interpreted the book differently than I had. I dumped my preconceived notions and listened again after some time. My goodness, this is one of the best narrations I have heard. It is excellent, like listening to a play. Well done!

Delightful
