In the wake of the cataclysm that has reshaped the very lands, Sanglant is struggling to legitimize his own rulership and Liath's status as his wife and consort, even as others are leaguing against him . . .

The Aoi are carrying out random attacks on the humans and implicating Sanglant as their leader . . .

While Liath, searching for forbidden magics, is unexpectedly beset by enemies she may not be able to withstand . . .

Stronghand is on a march of conquest that will inevitably lead into the heart of Sanglant's realm . . .

Adelheid has made an unholy alliance with the treacherous Antonia, who, with the deadly galla at her command, is prepared to strike at Liath, Sanglant, or anyone who threatens her plans . . .

Sabella and Duke Conrad have also marshaled their forces and are moving to seize the crown from Sanglant . . .

And Alain must take his own stand against the Lady of Battles if he is to have any hope of redeeming this war- and magic-torn world . . .

It was overall a good book and series. The series was a bit slow in the middle but became more engaging again for the last few books.

I liked the narrator and story. Good character development.

We might as well call this title “The Rest of the Tea”. This was such a gratifying conclusion to the series. We travelled back across 20 trails of breadcrumbs, scooped them all up, poured out all the tea, and soaked it up, making a meal MOST HEARTY for the reader. I thought I knew what I wanted for the characters, but I was wrong. This is the ending I wanted!

Kate Elliott can do no wrong.

How anyone can put together such a lengthy tome and keep the tone the same, the characters real, and the action moving, I do not know. This was a wonderful listen.

She’s a genius

this whole series lacked any tangible story arch. The reader also stays at about the same volume and pitch throughout so it seems even more boring.

Can't believe I lasted til the end
