Bold, daring, larger-than-life heroes and feisty, intelligent heroines propel Stephanie Laurens' exciting historical romances. Devil's Bride is rich with engaging plot and sensuous character development.

Governess Honoria Wetherby values her independence. She would rather travel the world than marry and give some man control of her life. Then, one stormy evening, fate changes all her plans. She stumbles upon a mortally wounded young man in the woods. When the stranger dies, she is trapped in a cabin with his body and with his newly arrived cousin, Devil, whom she soon learns is aptly named. He insists that their unchaperoned night together has compromised her honor, and, therefore she must marry him. Tension levels run high as Honoria plots to thwart Devil's marriage plans and tries to help him find his cousin's killer...the same madman who is now plotting to murder Devil.

Narrator Simon Prebble tantalizes listeners as he breathes life into these intriguing characters.

This is the first Stephanie Laurens book I purchased and after listening to it, I bought every one of the 18 in the series. The story is soo good, soo believable, and soo sexy, and Simon Prebble brings it to life. Devil Cynster is a powerful independent guy but when he meets Honoria, he meets the woman who can stand beside him as his duchess and make his heart soft as a marshmallow.

Would you listen to Devil's Bride again? Why?

Absolutely! In fact, I've gone back to it twice so far. I really enjoy the interactions between the two main characters, Devil and Honoria. There is just enough lapel grasping with exclamations of "I won't lose you, too!" to make the story deliciously overwrought without being campy. And I can't forget the murder mystery. Or the fantastic sex scenes! Very hot! Every aspect of the novel takes me back to my adolescence and all the reasons I first sought out romances: High stakes drama! Intense, passionate characters! Mystery and intrigue! Sex! So this book was oddly comforting in that way, even as it was titillating, which feels rather awkward. Hehe. It's just a warm, sexy blanket of romantic escapism. (I think I'll use that in the title of this review! lol) This book made me fall in love with the historical romance genre all over again. And I must add that this may have not happened if it weren't for the excellent performance by Simon Prebble!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Devil's Bride?

The culminating scene, of course, and the clever way in which Devil bests the villain.

Which character – as performed by Simon Prebble – was your favorite?

Devil Cynster

Any additional comments?

I've listened to the other five books about the Bar Cynster since I first purchased Devil's Bride. I enjoyed all of them (And I loved that Simon Prebble narrated them too!), but this first book in the series remains my favorite.

A favorite! A warm, sexy blanket of escapism.

Yes, I actually found this to be rather entertaining!

I am most definitely NOT a Romance Novel reader. I quite happily went into this novel thinking a woman made a pact with the Devil and married him, however, I quickly found out that Devil is only a man. If you can overcome numerous references to HARD CHEST, LONG FINGERS, LONG LIPS (I must say I kept picturing long lips like a giraffe reaching down to plant a kiss), the story will catch your interest. Characters are well enough developed to create a bond with the reader. There are a few love scenes, more like very soft erotica, not as detailed as soft porn. The book is not so overwhelmingly directed toward the love scenes that the story becomes flimsy. I liked it.

Any additional comments?

While the story was very good, the sex scenes were way too long. I wanted to skip them to get back to the interesting story.

Good Story

Any additional comments?

I liked the hero and the heroine. Liked the storyline. Romance felt unemotional or dull. Not sure what was off with the romance. It was OK.
