Morgan used to be a pretty normal guy. He went to college by day and played online games by night, leading his guild into new conquests - until he got hit by a car and a dude wearing a wet suit appeared in front of him. The man offered him a new chance at life in a world he had created, a world with similar rules to the games Morgan loved to play. There is the promise of great rewards and power, he says, if Morgan manages to complete the Tower of Power. Stupid name, I know.

Morgan didn't usually trust strangers who seem to have god complexes, but he was in a pinch. There's a crazy-looking dude saying he is technically not a god on one end of the tunnel and a blinding light on the other end - and he was really not digging the light.

So he accepted the offer from the surfer god-not-god.

Getting dropped into a strange new world with no idea what the rules are was not something Morgan was a fan of; and in this strange world, it seems like everything is out to eat his face. It was a good thing, then, that he stumbled onto two half-elf twins willing to help him get the hang of this strange new world.

Now, all he needs to do is survive long enough to reach this tower.

So yes this a fun story. The main protagonist Morgan’s pov is funny and witty.

I will say that the gender dynamics are a bit… antiquated but not horribly so.

Enjoyable and fun

First, let me say that i'm up to book 6 and i love the story. It's engaging and i really want to know how it all turns out. It's also well-paced and a great listen.

But, my god, the writing is such a slog.
The author will pick a single noun and then will not deviate for the remainder of that narrative section. In a boss fight, he'll use the term 'The boss' hundreds of times. By book 6 it's so grating that you start wishing for the end of every single action sequence. Having the same word repeated, over and over at particularly intense moments brings on Pavlovian migraines.

This in addition to the author's habit of ending most descriptive sentences with the noun they began with just grinds you down. If you don't see it yet, trust me, you will after a while.
Stuff like - he checked his hand for a weapon and saw an axe in his hand.
There are so many times where information is repeated in the same sentence... i'm starting to believe that if you removed it, the books would be about 4 hours long.

Anyway, this is all subjective and i am really taken with the story... I dunno. Maybe the writing got worse as the books went on or maybe i just got really sensitive and they started annoying the crap out of me. These books would be wonderful if the author started to describe things to draw the reader in as opposed to beating them over the head with the same noun or verb over and over.

Great story - Writing grates.

I'm not going to give this book a bad review just because I didn't like it. I think it is a well written book. it had a good plot the narrator did an excellent job it just wasn't for me. o tried to like it bit I just couldn't get into it. however my opinion aside if these are the types of books you enjoy I think you will end up liking this book. you should always keep your options open who knows a book you think you won't like you may end up loving. eithe way over all it was a good book just not my kind of book.

I'm not going to give any spoilers

I listened to this after reading Ivan’s other series hoping it would be as good and this book didn’t disappoint. What I love about Ivan’s books is that the supporting cast is powerful and useful and not just there for decoration.

Good start

This was a great new take on isakie and I feel that the video game mechanics just adds to the story very much. Hopefully the rest of the series continues the stride this book gave me, now onto the next one!

Not Bad
