Shanora Williams never fails to write imagery that you can literally see in your minds eye while hearing it reading the story unfold. Mayhem and the Mortal did not disappoint. I simply must have more of this story. I want more background and what happens next. The supporting cast are so spectacular that I’m invested in their history and I want to see where they all go from here. I’m begging!

From the beginning, I knew I was in for a ride, but I didn’t expect to get so attached to the entire crew. Every character added something that pulled me into their world. Oh my Orvena and The Shadows will live rent-free in my mind for weeks.

I loved how Zaira and Thane’s relationship development from morally gray to enemies-to-lovers. Zaira made some wild decisions and was definitely naive at times, but her love and loyalty to her sister never wavered.

Now that ending, OH. MY. ORVENA. I’m still processing.

This story delivers a gripping dangerous journey filled with strangers-to-lovers tension, hidden agendas, and a touch of dark magic. From the very beginning, I was pulled into the world Shanora created. The atmosphere, the stakes, and especially the descriptions of the beastials made everything feel vivid and immersive.

The chemistry between Zaira and Thane was a standout. Their slow-building tension added just the right emotional depth, and while there is romance, this isn’t an overly spicy read — something to keep in mind if that’s what you’re expecting. Instead, the focus leans more toward adventure, character growth, and the evolving dynamics within the group.

And that ending… Shanora really left us hanging! Still, I’m fully invested and already rooting for my shadow daddy and spectacle-wearing girly pop. I’ve grown attached to this ragtag cast, flaws and all, and I can’t wait to see where their journey goes next.

With its immersive world-building, engaging characters, and compelling blend of fantasy and romance, this was an easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me.

If you’re looking for a romantasy packed with adventure, tension, and lovable yet imperfect characters, definitely add this one to your TBR.

This book took me on an adventure!!! So many ups and downs that left me holding my breath! The ending left my jaw on the floor!!!

The narrator killed this entire performance!!!! She brought each character to life making their personas stand out. Shanora Williams has me hooked! Can't wait to see her at Read Freely Fest and hear her talk about this book! So happy that I pre-ordered and added it to my collection.
