From the acclaimed author of The Troop—a book that is “utterly terrifying” (Clive Barker). “Fans of unflinching bleakness and all-out horror will love this novel….Each new shock is freshly disturbing” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

A strange plague called the ‘Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget—small things at first, like where they left their keys, then the not-so-small things, like how to drive or the letters of the alphabet. Their bodies forget how to function involuntarily. There is no cure.

But far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, a universal healer hailed as “ambrosia” has been discovered. In order to study this phenomenon, a special research lab has been built eight miles under the sea’s surface. But when the station goes incommunicado, a brave few descend through the lightless fathoms in hopes of unraveling the mysteries lurking at those crushing depths…and perhaps to encounter an evil blacker than anything one could possibly imagine.

Would you try another book from Nick Cutter and/or Corey Brill?

The reader did a bang up job.

What could Nick Cutter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

A bit less horror and more explanation.

Have you listened to any of Corey Brill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Do you think The Deep needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Perhaps

Any additional comments?

Sometimes the horrible stuff can be overdone. This was such a case. The baddies were too enigmatic.

King it ain't

This book had me on my seat's edge for the first half but after a certain point it feels like it drags on. It seems like the author didn't know where to go or perhaps they had a beginning and end but the middle just wasn't filled very well. They're under the ocean, okay.. unused. there's a disease destroying the world, okay.. nothing more than a plot device with no ending.

Great ideas, didn't stick the landing

Would you consider the audio edition of The Deep to be better than the print version?

This book actually brought me to gooseflesh! I found myself laughing at the intense grossness! AND, I had a nightmare so terrible that my wife had to slap me awake! BRILLIANT! The best descriptions of "insanity" and "going mad" I have ever read. The story AND the narration are wonderful! NICK CUTTER is like the 21st century 'Stephen King'! If you want to be permanently altered, scarred for life ... THIS is the book for you! LOVED IT! ... YIKES! Just sorry it's over ... I want to catch the disease in the book, (not really!) so I can forget that I listened to it, and listen again!

NICK CUTTER is the 21st century 'Stephen KING!'

I went in expecting monsters and deep sea dangers, but got Cthulhu and psychology instead. It's okay from that perspective, but that isn't my preferred genre, so just a word of warning for anyone else going in.

The characters and psychological horror aspect are fine. They are memorable, and the plot was interesting enough, but as it usually goes with these type of books, a lot of things happen in extremely convenient ways to move the plot along and many things are not really explained or elaborated on

More psychological horror than I wanted

If you love Stephen King and Classic Lovecraft you're going to love this book. A great and terrifying story with plenty of claustrophobia and ookie spookie monster. One part stephen king, one part the thing and just enough lovecraft to keep you on the edge of your seat.
i will say this though, mild spoiler, if you are easily disturbed by animal death then watch out and dont get too attached to LB.

Amazing
