#1 Amazon Political Fiction Bestseller

The Very Last War plunges listeners into a gripping, relentless, and chillingly plausible tale of a near-future World War III.

A pivotal election revives freedom and self-governance in America, sending shockwaves across the globe and rattling four rival powers—European socialists, Chinese communists, Islamic radicals, and avaricious Russian leaders.

With dreams of world domination fading, they set aside differences and forge an alliance. Not to simply defeat America, but—with the help of a devastating new weapon—to erase it from the earth.

Outnumbered and alone, America answers with its own revolutionary weapon. But machines, no matter how intelligent, won’t be enough. Once again, survival will depend on something older. Something deeper.

The unbreakable American spirit.

In dimly lit halls of power, shadowy intrigues unfold. On sunlit battlefields, selfless heroism burns bright. Across North America, war rages from the frozen tundra of Alaska to the red clay of Alabama, from the mountains of Montana to the scorching deserts of Mexico.

If America falls, the free world falls with her.

A great generation will be needed.

But can America still produce greatness?

W. H. Hawthorne was born and raised in the Alaskan interior, where life echoes the self-reliance and rugged individualism envisioned by the Founders. He spent four decades designing autonomous robotic systems for DARPA, NASA, and other agencies. In The Very Last War, he fuses those experiences into a harrowingly authentic vision of the next world war—blending advanced technology, gritty realism, and a fierce celebration of Americanism.

The Very Last War isn’t just a story of survival—it’s a tribute to what makes America worth fighting for.

It’ll be fun. Seriously.

I’ve read the book more than once and it translated very well to audio. A great story: tech coolness, heroic characters, and thought provoking politics.
The only issue, and it’s probably just me being an Aspy, is the accents. Overall excellent narration but almost every character sounds Russian. Except at the end with a note perfect Aldo Raine, which was comically perfect for the moment

Such an excellent story, full of details and “makes your heart full” moments

Absolutely loved the story told here. The character building was good without spending an excessive amount of time and dedication to it. There were a couple characters I connected with and felt invested in which made it fun! The reader did a good job and had some entertaining accents throughout the story

Great book overall and I hope there will be more

Great story!

Narration was excellent. Good idea with the storyline and fleshing out the main characters. A little “preachy” in places but in a nice way. Actual warfare section(s) a little too short and glossy….and end was not quite believable with America controlling the world into the future - seems a little far-fetched mainly because once something (everything) has been developed, someone else will copy and then produce the next level of abilities. But I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

Enjoyable Story
