I signed my maiden name first before memorializing my new name. Elizabeth Madeline Darcy. Elizabeth Bennet lay dead on the altar of matrimony.

HAVING SIGNED THE REGISTER as Elizabeth Darcy, the former Miss Elizabeth Bennet must somehow survive a crushing scandal as a stranger to herself. Her unwilling husband is so outraged to find himself tied to a person he thinks no better than a fortune hunter that she is forbidden to speak of the circumstances behind their union. Indeed, Mr. Darcy seems to loathe even the sound of her voice, and often Elizabeth's only recourse is to be silent.

WHEN THE COUPLE ARRIVES at Pemberley, Elizabeth—Mrs. Darcy—is forced to draw upon stores of courage and resourcefulness she did not know she possessed in order to build, if not a happy life, a purposeful one. Facing obstacles and detractors, she carefully cultivates a friendship with Georgiana Darcy.

TRAPPED INTO AN UNWANTED MARRIAGE, Darcy must walk the long road of bitter resentment which forces him into increasing isolation during a very long winter. Increasingly confused by his new wife’s poise and determination to be useful, Darcy’s struggles multiply until a moment of reckoning shocks him out of his rage and into the strong light of truth: that even in the harshest of winters, the roots of tender feelings can quietly grow deep.

I very much like Grace Gibson books. And this is nice one! Suprising few developments in the book, but I very liked the ending.

Nice one!

Totally worth a credit. Whether or not you’ve read Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, I believe you will love this stand alone historical fiction novel. Oh there is so much to say.

It’s the early 1800’s and when a woman is found in a compromising situation, regardless of the innocence of both parties, the woman’s entire family is forever marked.

The fact that Darcy married the woman is beside the fact. The fact that the gentleman faces disdain from his family and even The Bingleys for marrying beneath him and allowed himself to be compromised is so very interesting.

The fact that Elizabeth, a compromised woman is a survivor against all odds is something to cheer. Elizabeth’s character is among the strongest and most vulnerable ever written.

Darcy’s character is among the most callous, stern, and unforgiving I’ve read.

But through Elizabeth, you’ll understand why Darcy is the way he is.

I don’t want to give anything away about the long struggle the couple faces. Suffice it to say, the character development and strength portrayed are worth the payoff. And there are few books that compare to the emotional journey.

Oh I wish there were a book club where I could talk with friends about the many points raised in this book.

How Darcy was used by his extended family and friends for his position. (And what a revelation that must have been!)

How women and girls were powerless at the whims of their fathers and husbands.

What a woman must do to survive, even in her mind.

I’ve put this on my favorites list and purchased or put the authors other books on my wish list.

This book is a must read. And if you’ve got a long list of titles in your collection, then add this one to your “play next” list.

Oh. I haven’t even mentioned the narration. Excellent. Gripping.

I might listen to this again right now. It’s that good.

Thank you to the author for creating this amazing work!

Mr Darcy was very bitter in this story. And it takes him a long time to get past it, but once he does and has a conversation with Elizabeth the story finishes so sweet. The narration was very good, in my opinion it would have maybe been a little bit better had it just been the female narrator, while I love the male narration and think he's very talented I think his voice is a little bit off for this genre. overall, an excellent listen.

excellent story and narration.

I like this author’s books. This is another very good P&P variation. A bit more angst than I like, but given the story, a necessary evil. However, I really disliked this Darcy - his blind, unrelenting ‘hate’ for Lizzy was pretty hard to take. Once he turned the corner and began to SEE Elizabeth, he improved and became my idea of Mr Darcy. I enjoy Elizabeth Grace’s narration. I will likely listen again, but I will need to be in the mood for the Darcy in the first half of this story.
