Alys Fairweather has always loved the sea.

So when her father gets the opportunity to build a city beneath the waves, she is the first in the submarine with him. She never expected to discover an entire species of merfolk living there. And she certainly didn't expect to find one of them so captivating.

But the song of the waves is one she has never been able to deny, even when that temptation comes in the form of a battle-scarred merman.

Wave Song is a novella that takes place long before the Deep Waters series. It is suggested to listen to Whispers of the Deep before this one, but not necessary.

I read all of the Deep Water series before coming to this Novella. I was not prepared for the raw emotion, the beautiful imagery and the tying together of the stories overall. I got to the Epilogue and literally wept for Ember and his “Wave Song” Alice. Brava Emma Hamm 👏👏👏

Love the story and characters, but wish the story was longer! It ended too soon. 🥺

Sweetness of the romance

I love this series. I was sad that it was so short, but it was still so amazing. Considering I know about this couple, it for some reason just made me cry. I kinda wish the spice was a bit more, but the story more than made up for that in my opinion.

The romance between Alys and her undine is something the two of are quick to fall into, with intrigue on both sides and less of the interspecies amenity that later develops. That can be a hit or miss for some, but personally it worked fine for me! Coming to this after book 4 was interesting, with later series revelations clicking with the puzzle pieces here. Definitely not a part of the series I would recommend skipping over, optional as it may seem! The displacement of the undine as the humans prepared to build their cities was perfectly harrowing to hear told, like tales from the war front.

I overall love this series but this novella might be my favorite. I am as gone for this book as these two main characters are for each other. If you are a romantic at heart and want to find yourself sighing every few minutes, you’re going to love this book. Amazing story, amazing voice acting, amazing writing.
