When her family reported her missing on the Monday evening, after being unable to get in contact with her, police immediately launched an investigation, to no avail. 13 years later, her skeletal remains were discovered on a slip road to the M5 motorway. • 05. Legal Precedent: R v R (1991)
    Apr 10 2026

The case of R v R (1991) set legal precedent when the House of Lords abolished the ‘marital rape exemption’, meaning that a husband could be found guilty of raping his wife, something which, prior to this case, had not been the case. This case reflected the changing attitudes of women and their roles in marriage, viewing them more as equal partners, rather than subservients to their husbands.
