Though my rating went down slightly since my initial read, I think that is just because I've read so many great books since then, and that is influencing my opinion. It is still a great book, but I didn't have the same history with dark romance back then. This book was more psychological thriller for most of it, which I loved, and had serious Stockholm syndrome on top of all the crazy. It seemed much shorter this time around, but I'm kind of glad about that, as I was mostly doing the reread because there is a character here (Richard) who makes an appearance in the book I'm about to start, and I wanted a refresher on him before jumping in. Pope and Demi almost had an instalove going on within the Stockholm syndrome, which I didn't love, but it works for their story.

All I have to say is WOW. Dark and creepy at the same time. Mommy in law is cray cray. This story is definitely different from other captive story lines. I wouldn't call the story erotic. Words can't really express what I am thinking after this one!

I really enjoyed this story, I would not rate it as hot, more of a story - not erotica. You do have to suspend believe. I came up with heaps of ways the couple could have gotten out of their situation. But it was a compelling listen as I waited to see how it would end up. I will read and listen to more of this author.
The narrator did a good job as well.

Captive Vow: A Dark Romance is a standalone dark romance. I love all of Alta Hensley’s books so far. I didn’t love this one. I wish I could say I did because I usually love dark romances.

Captive Vow is twisted alright a bit too much. It wasn’t the darkness of the book that bothered me. It was the twisted part that did. I will continue to read Alta Hensley books this book did not put me off from the author. It was just a miss for me. I got this book off Kindle Unlimited and bought the audible part.
