The monster hiding under the bed is not always the enemy.

Benjamin

Broken. Feral. Dangerous.

Like a snake lying in wait, I watch every move the little mouse makes. Her whimpers and pleas for freedom fall on deaf ears and a wicked grin—until the little mouse becomes my savior instead of my victim.

Mackenzie forces me to confront the past I’ve buried deep within my soulless self, awakening feelings I never thought I possessed. I need to protect her from my partner.

Will I be able to cut ties with someone I’ve known so long for this new ray of light? Will Mackenzie be able to accept me for who I am when this is over?

Mackenzie

Hurt. Confused. Helpless.

Falling for my captor is not what I expect when I am brought into the viper’s nest. What’s more, I realize he has a soft spot for me. Held against my will, afraid for my life and virtue, I struggle. Not just for freedom, but for my sanity. His harshest touch sets my soul ablaze. What is wrong with me?

Benjamin is more than the monster under the bed. He creeps through the shadows with a vile heart. When his partner in crime holds my life in her hands, Benjamin shows me he is more than he appears to be.

Is it possible to save the irredeemable? Can I save myself and escape captivity? Will I be able to recognize myself once I do?

Definitely not what I was expecting. I really loved Mackenzie's character and enjoyed watching Benjamin/Dylan evolve and be his own person.
I do feel like it drags on during some parts and wish there was more spice. However the ending was perfect. The narrators did a great job and were a perfect fit for the characters.

I couldn’t believe how the main female main character was more sympathetic to Marcy but “recoils” every time Benjamin was too much? Like he wasn’t a victim?

I just didn’t like that McKenzie was “the lucky one…” she just became a broken record… over and over and I was becoming annoyed by her inner monologues… what made her “special?” I didn’t get it and this is sometimes a problem… when the male protagonist becomes addicted to one woman all of a sudden when they didn’t really do anything spectacular and it was all in his head really…

Benjamin (Dillon) was really really sad… his story and consequently Stockholm syndrome was just too too sad… his relationship with Marcy was fucked up to put it simply… mommy but have sex with mommy too?

This book is DAAAAARK!!! BUT I just didn’t like McKenzie… too many inconsistencies…

Mackenzie was looking for her friends house when a women pulls up beside her asking her if she wanted a ride since it was raining. Mackenzie got in the car and was drugged. When she woke up she was in the basement of a strange house.

MY THOUGHTS:
Where do I begin with this book…. Ummm well it is a dark romance that is messed up. Lauren always knows how to give you the shocked factor in books. Was it good.. well sure.. but is it something that you need to run out and go read… no. If you are into dark romances then I would say yes read this.
