This book - phew! What a ride!

Sweetly Unhinged follows Cade and Violet, and their journey of discovering their deepest, darkest desires. It has the yummiest of tropes: age-gap, ex’s older brother, primal play, stalker, touch her and ☠️ vibes, Dom/Sub, brat, controlling…the list goes on and it’s delicious! The spice was spicing! So if that’s your vibe, this book is for you!

The story line I felt moved smoothly, made sense and felt natural in progression. It was well written, quirky and made me smirk.

Now let’s chat narrators. Oh boy. First it’s duet - my favorite. Zoe Black narrated Violet and she brought that sweet quiet nativity that Violet has to life, but also when the brat came out, she portrayed that to perfection! Yes queen! James Cassidy voiced Cade and good grief. The growliness, the dominance in his voice. Phew. Absolutely delicious. Both Zoe and James were the perfect casting to bring Violet and Cade to our ears.

If you haven’t discovered James Cassidy…this is your sign. He’s EXCELLENT. Really excellent. This is the perfect blend of stalker/hacker/kink. Zoe Black is great. She really brings the confusion. Trying to figure herself out.

Kade is definitely a book boyfriend for me.

Violet anonymously reaches out to a notorious hacker known as The Ghost and what starts as a reckless confession turns into a dangerous, intimate game she can’t walk away from. What she doesn’t know is that the man behind the screen is Cade… her ex’s brother and someone already very much in her life.

This book is dark, spicy, kinky, and unapologetically explicit. Sexual content runs throughout the story, and the chapters I flagged are the spicier moments. If you’re into darker romance with obsession, blurred lines, and morally gray characters, this will hit.

Character wise, I liked Cade more than Violet. Cade is the quiet IT guy with a dark side, but there’s also a caring and protective layer to him that worked for me. Violet frustrated me at times, I wanted her to make better choices and stand up for herself more, and some of her decisions felt dumb. Also… her boss is absolutely sick and awful.

The fast pacing kept me engaged, and although there was a bit of repetition, it didn’t take away from the story. The rom com elements weren’t as strong for me, but I still had a great time with it.

And then… that ending, the book ends on a cliffhanger that had me immediately needing book two. It’s a wild ride from start to finish and despite a few frustrations with the characters actions, I really did enjoy it.

I really enjoyed the audiobook! @itszoeblack.audio and @jamescassidyromance did a great job bringing the story to life and matched the dark, intense tone perfectly. It was engaging, easy to listen to, and made the story fly by.
