Reidon Ward's first semester at the Galens Institute hasn't been without reward. There was nothing in this book that kept me as excited as the first book which I gave all 5 stars.
This book I gave 2 and 3 stars. No struggles or strife or exciting events that were surprising. I quite enjoy the narrators voice, but his accents were all over the place and didn’t stay consistent with some of the characters.

I do like the narrator, unlike some other reviewers say, I like him almost as much as Nick pohdell, but I won’t say that every voice he does is what I imagine the characters sounding like. He still does a really good job, however.
In the last book I left a review that could be summarized as, Way to much fighting, maybe cut back on the unimportant ones and focus on characters development and world building. Well I got my wish, but it (to me) felt like the opposite spectrum of what I was expecting. I loved the first book because of the fights and growth and mountains climbed by the characters in those fights. The first book did have some fights that didn’t need to be fully narrated, but in this book, I felt like a lot definitely shouldn’t have been skipped. There were fights that didn’t involved the friend groups that I wish weren’t skipped, leaving me wanting me more from the combat aspect of the story. Last book was something like 70/30, 70% on fighting and watching reiden become the stormweaver. This book was the opposite, 30% focused on fighting, but made me sad in the aspect that it didn’t feel like we got to watch reidens arch of becoming the stormweaver AS MUCH as I hoped. It wasn’t missing, but it felt like less than. I was left wanting more from that aspect. I was pleased though in the overall story. The characters arch and development was much needed and I enjoyed seeing them grow closer and struggle and overcome together. I did enjoy the overall story.
The last thing I’ll touch on is that my overall engagement wasn’t as much as the last book. It was still a fun listen, but I felt like I found myself losing some overall sense of hurry in the book, (except at the end) and made it feel like a filler book. Cause in the last one, reiden had to get stronger, QUICK, right? He needed to
Get above his opponent quickly so he didn’t get absolutely demolished by his opponents, and it came to a head when he had to beat Logan, that was the climax of the story. I didn’t feel that here, there was no get strong quick, aspect, no reason to put 110% into training and so on. It’s his friends that might feel that way, like viv for example. She needed to put in 110%, and I was rooting for her pay off at the end. (I literally hate that we get her pay off, but don’t get to see her in action with that pay off cause the book literally ends, and for that matter, we didn’t get to see reidens new ability in action against a real opponent either, which made me sad too.) it just felt like the urgency of the story wasn’t in the story at all untill the last hour and a half of it. Anyway my rant is over, cause it sounds like I didn’t enjoy the book, which isn’t the case. This is my new favorite series, and I hope the next one comes out soon. I really feel like book three should’ve came out with book 2, but that’s just me. I’m not a writer, I don’t know how to wright a book, this is just what I wish I saw differently. So to summarize, I hope there is a better balance in combat/action and character and world building. And a better sense of urgency to keep the plot more engaging. I also hope to see the abilities in full next story, and not be left hanging and wanting more.

This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites, book one was fantastic, book two even better. My favorite part is the length, not too many long length books anymore.
