Metropolis—the beating heart of the Empire of the New Monarchy—is a city of intrigue, power, and backalley bargains.

Ardan Egobar, once a simple hunter from a remote mountain tribe, is now a newly awakened mage, a student of the Imperial Magical University, and an operative of the Emperor’s Second Chancery—the last of the Matabar.

In Volume II, the stakes rise in the capital: old enemies return, new dangers close in, and every alliance can be a trap. In a world where magic walks hand in hand with progress, Ardan must choose—be crushed by the capital, or pay the price to grow stronger.

A fastpaced continuation filled with conspiracies, peril, bright moments, and even more magic and mystery.

From Kirill Klevanski, the bestselling author of Dragon Heart, comes book 2 of this epic new Progression Fantasy adventure about a young wizards rise to power, featuring a detailed magic system, expansive world-building, slow-build power progression, epic action, and unforgettable characters.

This unfortunately started off as a great series. The MC gets trained to be a powerful killer and magical user. Then continues to forget everything he learned and continues to make the same mistakes over and over.

The story has such promise but I absolutely hate dumb MC that just get nurfed over and over.

***Spoiler ****

First book kid gets amazing training and power to walk on snow, move silent, hear everything around him like a snow panther. Then continues to never use these skills again. Constantly makes extra noise, has slow reflex, seems dumb, etc. The constant dumbness of the MC is starting to get annoying.

Also his fine moter skills issue also makes no sense. He’s a hunter that can control every movement and muscle but struggles with fine motor skills? He spent days coping books but not with a pen with a magic pen that somehow makes you not have any control over your hand? Idk just seems unnecessary making him weaker.

He’s supposedly a powerful trained fighter but had zero awareness of his surrounding. Constantly gets snuck up on or overpowered.

He has the ability to call names the just stops using it but uses it some times. Never explains why he can stop a bully’s but consistently gets injured. Can see in the dark some times but also misses things because it’s dark.

Has amazing sense of purpose things and struggles with money but misses several important ways to make money that would have been easier and better than the story arc.

Also having the accumulators break after use but also having them very expensive makes no sense. Why are they one time use? Why would it break the accumulator to use it? They explain that every thing needs to be charged or unkept but then the accumulator breaks limiting there use.

Also the fay travel when he’s a kid saves the kid and the promises made to the fay by the mom just make no sense. She doesn’t do any of the things she said she would so that just doesn’t happen? He also should he much smarter after getting back to the human world by the time he makes it to the city he’s so dumb. Where is the hunter’s danger sense, his ability to feel and size up situations.

Also why can’t he shot? Dexterity as a hunter is perfectly acceptable. As a hunter timing speed, muscle strength timing eye sight all needed for shooting all things that this hunter should already have. He should have easily picked up the guns and been extremely accurate.

The star magic is also very confusing. He starts out learning basicly useless magic but just continues to use this useless magic they doesn’t work…. He literally says over and over how the magic has changed so much and the old magic is just not as good but continues to use that same magic over and over having it constantly not work also.

The magic system is also overly complicated for no reason. It often contradicts itself. Based on the original conversations he is lacking some insight but his power was originally higher but then he’s not that powerful once he gets to the school so what does he do continue to use the same lame spells that don’t work.

Says he can use all elements but constantly uses ice that just doesn’t work. Everyone else uses fire that literally melts his spells lol you would think he would learn something more powerful like the magic shields everyone else uses but nope continues to use the useless magic he knows.

I really hope the author stops nurfing his power. He should be like Edward in full metal alchemist he should be over powered, using both his advanced abilities as a snow leopard never missing details, quite, hearing and knowing what is around him all the time. I know the more human he is the less he can use that side of him but it seems he uses zero of his training.

Also the witches gaze joke slash issue is also getting over used. We get it he can get info out of people. But wait when they need to get info out of people he forgets to use it completely??? Why not just go to the student they knew was causing the issue and make him spill his guts like he did with the librarian. Also now that he can get them to forget that he used it then why didn’t he do that before? Would make more sense if he can tell them to forget.

Also why would he ever be cold in one chapter he is hot in the winter then he’s cold for no reason then he’s uncomfortable in winter clothes but then complains that his feet are cold like make up your mind. He should have zero challenges to the cold as his half that’s able to walk on snow bla bla bla would keep him warm in the winter. Stop going back and forth one moment never cold then next moment cold.

Also his money issue seems like a problem but again his problem should not have been as bad as it was made out to be. At least they didn’t focus on that to long and he is now starting to make money with the many skills he supposedly has. I’m hopeful that the next book will get even better but if they keep him dumb it will be my last.

Started off good MC is just dumb.
