"Despite the challenges - an unreliable narrator, an intricate plot, a shifting timeline, and myriad characters - Stephanie Racine gives a flawless narration of this audiobook.... This intense thriller is made even better by her performance." (AudioFile Magazine)

From renowned journalist Alice Feeney comes a riveting new audiobook, Sometimes I Lie.

My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me:

  1. I'm in a coma.
  2. My husband doesn't love me anymore.
  3. Sometimes I lie.

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn't remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it.

Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

Critic reviews

"With tension comparable to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, plus the imaginative Now-Then-Before construction, Feeney unfolds just enough in each chapter to keep you page-turning for more, and her character development is excellent." (NJ.com)

"The creepy feeling at the back of your neck is 100 percent real." (People Magazine)

WOW WOW WOW!

Best psychological thriller I have listened to in a LONG time!

This book was twisted, raw and at some points scary, it went back and forth between present day, (Amber in a coma) to a week prior, the build up to Amber being in a coma, and 1992, a series of diaries. The twists and turns this book takes was so entertaining and spooky, i found myself speeding up the reading just to see what happened next! It kept me guessing, and thinking and guessing the entire time. I loved every second!

For a while i was looking for a book that not only has the big plot twists at the end but throughout the entire book. Just when you think you had it figured out- boom- another one. The narration was really well done (which I think can either make or break the book) definitely one of my new favorites

Wow! Twists and turns until the very end!

I am really on the fence about this book. While I marvel at Ms Feeney’s imagination, I found this book an extremely trying listen. The first three quarters of the book were so tedious, I was just about to walk away from it. I held on due to the other good reviews. Yes, there were finally some twists and turns at the three quarter mark, but they continue at a somewhat confusing pace. I did not find any of the characters likable in the least bit, which added to the overall tedium of the story. When you are hoping for the possible death or demise of everybody in a story, and you don’t, for various reasons, have any sympathy for even the person in a coma, that’s a bad sign.

Introducing the friend, Taylor, then her becoming taylor was too much for me to follow. Then the writer focusing on growing up in different houses but then in the end it was the same house? It was more "twists" than I care for, but good.

one too many twists to follow

I would love to say that I enjoyed this book and completely understood it, but I don’t. the book is all over the place. I think the story would have been good if it were told in a different way. It was just way too confusing. I would not buy this book.

I really am not sure what happened
